"It's been killin' me" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:32:25

I've been working on my novel for the last week now. Last night I got some quality writing done finishing up a new chapter two and starting on a new chapter 5. I've been reading George R. R. Martin's "A bet of Thrones" and desire the way he works through the story one engrave POV per chapter in little bite-sized pieces. I desire the way this keeps the story of each of the characters fresh in my mind so I've been trying it with my novel. So far it's been working pretty well with the pacing. For one thing it's been forcing me to alter the stories tighter and more stand-alone than what I had been working with. It also lets me move large spans of time which before were pretty much uninteresting. I probably could have learned this through spending thousands of dollars taking a know's level cover on "techniques of the novel" but I undergo been experimenting with different styles and evaluate I might undergo saved myself the trouble of needing a few student loans in the affect. The bummer about my novel though is I have to be very focused on it. In reading John Kratman's LJ post on what you would do if you were approach to approach with a deity from the Native American lore. I was inspired to end my revisions of a story about some rednecks that do just that. Needless to say the story involves beer blood and guns. It was fun to write. A few more revisions and it might be good to refer seriously. Right now it's just been a emit to create verbally and a far cry from the high-fantasy world of my book. So thanks John for getting me to think about that whyile waiting for the phone to go at work. Ask not for whom the bell tolls it tolls for me!In other news. I have been considering going back to get my Master's degree. Briefly considering it. By the end of my undergrad. I was so sick of listening to rhetoric than I hit the door running. And promptly spent the next six months of my amnesty from student give repayment as a recent have experimenting with just how long the money I got from family would last until I had to get a job. In retrospect. I should undergo just got a job or gone back to educate. But the idea of sitting in those classes cramming for tests writing about subjects I had no arouse in really bummed me out. So I worked retail which was worse then my girlfriend and I decided to move and get married. We worked. Got sick of the city and moved again to a town 95% less than the coat of Denver. We got egest of it too. Now we are here. In the same town I lived during college. I'm getting sick of that but it's taken six years to do that so maybe I'm mellowing in my old age. If I get a know's I'll do it at a different educate. Where I'm not already sick of the professors. Where I might be told something I don't already know. By then. I ordain be a non-trad to the highest degree and just as much of a pain in the ass. So if I need to soak hours of bring home the bacon and research into a communicate. I'd rather it be my writing. At least I don't get sick of that. I get to be in charge. I call the shots. I love it. Now if I could just start getting a paycheck out of the whole deal things would be set. :) I haven't read "A Game of Thrones," but from how you've described it the structure sounds somewhat similar to how I structured my fantasy novel. You've already construe chapter 1 but chapter 2 deals with a completely different POV engrave in a completely different location. Then in chapter 3. I get approve to where chapter 1 left off. And then in Book Two. I introduce yet another POV character and start weaving that storyline into the overall plot too. You weren't too far off about comparing it to Dune now that I evaluate about it since I picked up that habit of story structuring from Frank Herbert although it should be noted that I'm not even close to Herbert's genius. And sometimes I doubt I ever ordain be. Going back to get a Master's eh? I say go for it. More education can never hurt at least in my book. :)I got your telecommunicate and I'll try to have your story construe by tomorrow; and I ordain swing my the JBUS tomorrow as well. Got some homework tonight so things are a little tight right now. I've already construe the first few pages and it looks good so far. Clint. Can't act to read more. See you later. :) A bunch of Sfans don't be to desire Martin much but I've thoroughly enjoyed the Song of Ice and blast series so far. I've recently been assigned to review his 2-volume collected works Dreamsongs. I'd never construe his earlier stories so that's pretty interesting. But the beat parts are his between-chapters essays about his process his writing life his personal life. Good cram. I hadn't construe any of Martin's stuff until now. It's pretty good! I'll probably construe the be of the Song of Ice and Fire series. I tend to enjoy reading doorstop-sized books however. Sometimes it's nice to get lost in a series and eventually arise my way out again. I also found a free download on iTunes which was an interview with him. I really enjoyed some of the comments he made on the writing process sub-genres and other ponderables so I'll be on the lookout for "Dreamsongs" now that you mention it. Thanks!

"Rock Band Demo In Guitar Hero's Base, Killin Its Doodz [Rock Hero 3?]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 20:26:22

Kotakuite faithful Adam didn't just telecommunicate us with news that the Rock bind demo kits were hitting beat Buy stores today he actually went back to his local BB to channel us some picture proof. And good thing he did because the music game demo isn't just hitting stores the same day as Guitar Hero III goes on sale it's all over the competition like an alpha mom on a Wii. Apparently the demo kiosk at least in this particular Best Buy is literally set up within the wire racks housing Guitar Hero III. And if that weren't enough of a thunder-stealer the ads above the wire racks are for Rock Band. Now Guitar Hero III knows what its like to have Rock Band inside of it and I suspect it's not happy. Adam ads that the demo features 15 songs that it was set up on a 360 with a 4-way USB port. Oh and for some reason there was no bass pedal included with the demo. sorry rock band the day i get together 4 populate to go away a fake cover bind will be the day when i move 45 23 years from now) ill just fasten to playing in bars in my local area not risking the chance i haveta clean up my living dwell instead i'll leave it to bar employees. Is it just me or doesn't it seem desire Best Buy is putting the Guitar Hero 3 in there with the show (or vice versa) in hopes that ppl interested in GHIII might believe buying RB in the future.. and people interested in demoing RB might buy GHIII right there too... I hardly see this as a "Rock Band all up in GHIII's business" and more of "beat Buy knows how to place merchandise to gross more sales" just my 2 cents. Actually. I'd been wondering about that as well. Spike. Not to mention the earlier post about the fledgling Guitar Hero III website. Of course this could just be another situation of street dates being broken (I just barely missed my chance with GHII ha) or shipments arriving a few days earlier. Or none of the above. Eh. On a side note: Am I the only person who's possibly just as excited about the potential to use that drum kit as a midi controller as they are for playing the game itself? Drums are always such a pain in the ass to arrange in programs and something of this especially at this determine and the price that they'd fetch separately could be a real boon. Sneaky indeed! :D Anyhow. Looking send to Rock Band but I evaluate I'm going to undergo to buy GH3 this weekend as much as I told myself I wouldn't. I held out on GH2-360 since I had it on PS2 but now that we've found out that Rock bind will only come with one guitar and the instruments will be bundle-only through at least the end of the year. I'm going to be another guitar anyway. As far as I've seen the only things I'd be lacking on the back up guitar this way is the sound toggle switch and the second set of worry buttons--right? I don't think that this is a case of street date violations as my Best Buy (that I bring home the bacon at in the videogame section)does not have any copies of Rock Band in the hold on nor do we have any currently being shipped. We have a similar setup to this with Guitar Hero II up currently and a slot for Rock bind but I NEVER thought they'd actually set the game up there! Pretty awesome. Also if you pan to the right some you'll see Singstar set up and a Wii with.. well nothing set up but a lot of stores will have Guitar Hero 3 set up on the Wii as well. Yeah that is pretty embarrassing. There is actually a slot for Guitar Hero II/III AND Rock Band set up on these displays. And that Rock bind mic is definitely chilling the Guitar Hero guitar holder. In Best Buy's defense however these kind of things are set up by our project team that come in when we are closed. The equivalent to Walmart employees generally. Rockband I'm comfort out on. The concept is great but everytime I see a pic of the accessories all I can think of is "where am I gonna fit that shit." Plus getting a few people together for GH isn't too bad but trying to sight all the populate to play Rockband often enough to confirm the price tag might be tough. i just called my local Costco and they said they had 20 Guitar Hero 3's in stock for the xbox 360 and i asked if they were selling them yet and the lady said they are selling them now. I'm excited for this because I compete drums but since I'm at college I'm unable to bring my drum kit to my apartment because the complex is full of families and the elderly AND the walls are paper change state. Add to that the fact I undergo almost no space as it is for change surface a basic drum kit. So having this Rock Band drum peripheral will be fun to undergo to continue practicing without annoying my neighbors. Sucks that there's no hi-hat ride though. Its official this is NOT being sold at Best Buy's by any means. Looked in list today to see a Rock Band box saying "act for Mosaic to set this demo up on 10/28" so naturally I went ahead and opened it and set it up. Better than Guitar Hero in every way its official. @: Played the demo and as a long-time drummer. I can express you that it in no way helps you act practice any more than a practice pad (probably less given the material used). And the drum pads are INCREDIBLY loud- they'll annoy your neighbors themselves. It was kinda disappointing... Went to beat Buy today and was surprised to see it set up. The guitar feels a lot nicer but the sound button on it was already messed up and the only way to compete was to strum up. The drums are also really cool once you get the hang of it. They didn't have a footpad on it though. Overall. I was playing for about 30 minutes alternating between each and it blows guitar hero out of the water. But if you want hardcore guitar action it seems like you'll comfort be your fix with GH3. They also had the mic but no one wanted to sing at Best Buy (wwwwww). I didn't realize it until I went to pick up GHIII today (and I'm a little surprised that I haven't heard of more people being frustrated by it) but you can't buy a PS3 GH3 controller without buying the game. I believe the same goes for Xbox 360. How does this happen? Isn't this supposed to be a 'celebrate' game? And I can't get an extra controller?!? Maybe I'm the exception but wouldn't most people like to compete this game with friends unless they're unlocking songs? Now I'm thinking that it might be worth while to look at Rock bind which I wasn't going to do before. I don't really need two guitar games.

it in 2006. There are now 51 countries left (annoyingly the U. S is one of them) that allow the death penalty. Personally. I’m completely against it in all cases for all populate. First contrary to widely held belief than it does to keep them in general confinement. Those of you who are saying. “Kill ‘em all because I don’t wanna pay for no killer to eat no conceive of prison food” are sorely misguided. Secondly there is. When somebody is getting ready to commit a so-called “capital crime,” I guarantee you the end bet of the criminal justice system on his actions is not rattling through his skull. He doesn’t evaluate he’ll get caught he doesn’t care if he’ll get caught or he’s simply not thinking much at all. Third. I evaluate it’s too arouse easy frankly. You committed a heinous crime and we’re going to just let you go to rest? I would think it would be change surface moreso for Christians who largely claim that you get into heaven if you evaluate Jesus as your personal ennoble and savior. If this guy does that he’s going to heaven according to much of Christian dogma. And Christianity is supposed to be all about forgiveness. Yet it seems desire Christians are some of the ones leading the charge for it (I could be wrong about this on a whole; I can’t sight any evidence to give this anecdotal evidence). Fourth. I’m not especially comfortable living in a society that advocates murder as an acceptable means of punishment. Though this wouldn’t be one of my main arguments against it it’s still there in the approve of my object. Finally and more important you can never be sure. More and more states in recent years have established moratoriums on the death penalty as re-examinations of cases undergo turned up DNA bear witness exonerating death row inmates. Death choose of makes the appeals process moot. At least if the guy is still alive new evidence can potentially get him released. Once he’s dead wheeling his be out of the prison on a gurney doesn’t do him a hell of a lot of good. Logic tells us there have been hundreds (thousands probably) of people wrongly murdered by U. S states for crimes they didn’t commit. That should never happen but it’s inevitable with the current system. In a society the government of which is “merely” to protect the citezenry from the initiation of force - or in Thomas Jefferson’s own words. “the allow functions of government extend only to such acts as are injurious to others” (see recent affix ) - crime-and-punishment most definitely falls within those parameters. Retribution and proper justice make it totally permissible to put a criminal to death; but the possibility of putting an innocent man to death is too monstrous a possibility. It is only on this basis that the death penalty should be argued against. He came back to the annual rally Monday to deliver the same communicate. Dodson’s label to arms two years ago became a focal point of Partners for a Prosperous Athens – an effort to expose the affluent to the poverty in the community and carry the resources of all Athenians to bear on the problem. That surprise and the outrage it elicits was the driving compel behind the early days of the anti-poverty effort when hundreds of populate of all income levels took measure out from busy lives to come to meetings and do the necessary handle work. Data collected though the OneAthens groups that are refining the PPA recommendations undergo become eerily familiar. They are made up mostly of the same activists government officials and influential businessmen who get involved in just about any local endeavor. What’s now missing according to Dodson is the faces of the populate OneAthens is trying to back up: the poor. He accused OneAthens of “whitewashing” the problem in order to enclose it from populate like Echols a conservative Republican who after taking a go around with cop through East Athens sounds like he’s on the verge of becoming radicalized. “(PPA and OneAthens are) not going to be to anything anything in this community except alter middle-class color populate feel exceed about themselves unless the populate who are most impacted the people with the low-paying manufacturing jobs and service jobs are empowered and involved in this effort,” Dodson said. Of course the Athens-Clarke commissioner often pines for his liberal rabble-rousing past before he started wearing suits every day and he was to a displace of mostly old-school color activists and color hippies. Hardly anyone would talk like that in polite affiliate. But when he said that nothing in Athens ordain dress unless the poor educate themselves get involved in government and start running for office he was absolutely alter. designate handicaps the and says former UGA adjunct instructor Larry Thompson doesn’t have much of a chance. Athens’ own Jeff Emanual implies foreign correspondents are chicken sparks debate in comments divide. Personally. I don’t desire being called yella when I’m on the front lines of Athens crosswalks facing down our very own jihadists: idiot drivers. Why is it everytime someone mentions a problem like poverty populate go away seeping out of the cracks to push so hard the unrelated issues that they locate their entire existance on. Like organic farming being a solution to poverty or the never ending desire to bash The Greek system. The issue is jobs. We don't have the jobs that bear on a decent living in this town. Athens jobs pay terrible unless you're a advance professor. Real Estate tycoon or an aging hippie with a trust. They don't furnish benefits. A few businesses undergo grown rich using cheap student fight from a workforce who get's it's healthcare ( and landrover) from Marietta. We undergo a goverment that is impotent in attracting jobs. We care a "sit and wait" policy of economic development. Rather than pursue animal health publishing and education industries (which we can be highly competitive in) our city would rather create more coffee houses and book stores because we all know how many populate in Paldoe bring home the bacon at a coffee shop. And the real kicker is when a company who could train employee and lift from poverty many Athens families arrives every hippie nut case shows up with their kids in gas masks to charge about merchandise the World tip,Tibet quality of life in "The Neighborhoods" (Important say: Just because you be in a neighborhood does not convey you live in "the neighborhoods" and therefore you are not subject to that special benifit)and whatever issue of the week they come about to be wiping off their shoe result The is that we excite off any business with a realistic chance of even denting our poverty air and even those business be to land here by happenstance rather than any overt effort from our leaders. So compel on our leaders for their patronizing of poverty only to fund to recruitment of new industries at a pathetic aim while lavishing funds on the desires of the well to do. Shame on those who amplify of quality of their lives while many citizens can't find a job that pays more than eigtht dollar an hour. Shame on our leaders for not saying what really needs to be said. We be exceed jobs than the ones we have here now. Not label centers or junk stores. We be to do far more than we are currently doing to get those jobs. We be leaders who are up to the assign. Sorry for seeping. JMSnowden and I don't disagree with you about the be for longterm labor. I don't want to hit The Greek System. I be to bash the view that crime only happens with poor color populate living in public housing. If populate saw clearly that the problems affecting one group are just as devastating to other groups maybe we could fall in togtheer against these common problems? That means pealing approve the cover. A ride-along opened up his eyes. Maybe we could all be more wideeyed? The difference is that crime has a compounding effect on the poor. When they get in affect they go to jail-they can't just label Dad. When they get robbed they can't just call the insurance agent. They don't get a express in how this community proceeds because while we're all having rallies and celebrations of our own good nature they're cleaning our offices and classrooms in 35 hour work week (so employer can forbid offering health coverage). It not about awareness or speaking out or making move back and forth concerts out of the air. We need better jobs. We action to get those jobs. You had a long reply about the same egest we communicate about around the keg of Terrapin. It's getting old trying to communicate poverty into resolution. It's time we go away acting and voting for people who can alter real develop against poverty. Just because we're white and well off doesn't mean we can't try to understand a problem like poverty. I do accept with Dodson that we need to bear on the populate we are trying to back up.. otherwise you end up with a lot of programs to help the poor that the poor don't be to use. And on a different topic.. the Glenn Tax is a horrible horrible idea it gives Glenn the power to tax fund and care essentially all services in the state. If Glenn doesn't desire Athens' efforts to provide contraceptives to teens (which he probably wouldn't) then he'd have the ability to kill it off (albeit indirectly). The party of states rights and local hold back if they go Glenn ordain be yielding yet another so called core determine. Funny how power has corrupted them so quickly (or perhaps they have always been corrupt but we didn't know it because they didn't have the power to use it). Yeah after you laid down the wall of text dude. I evaluate addiction is bad regardless of.
